These lists are always so subjective and this is no exception. Not only does this one include some of the very best music that was made over the course of the 00ughts, it happens to be the music that most impacted my life over the last ten years. Leave your list in the comments! And now, as always, in no particular order:
16 Horsepower - Secret South
The Heartless Bastards - All This Time
The Coup - Pick A Bigger Weapon
The Decemberists - The Crane Wife
The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots
The White Stripes - White Blood Cells
System Of A Down - Toxicity
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Howl
Tool - Lateralus
Brendan Benson - The Alternative To Love

Now I know for sure that I am an old fart. I don’t recognize any of the groups.

Haha! That’s easily remedied, Chris. I think you’d like most of them!

What about Herbie Hancock’s “VSOP”? Wait, which decade are we talking about?

Damn, you made me check, but yes, I did specify…we’re talking terrible 00ughts, my friend! Nice to hear from you! But Herbie is good stuff!

Nice list. I know you can’t make everyone happy, but not one Radiohead album? Blasphemy!!!

Thanks! I know, I know! They are in my top 15 (I almost handed out honorable mentions). But remember, this list reflects the albums that most influenced me.

Come on Patrick, no Phish, no Sting Cheese, and no Yonder Mountain String Band? How do you expect me to put any stock in your list? Only kidding of course. I know you do not dig on the tree hugging tunes.

I’m not down with the String or Yonder, true, but I’ve been known to partake of some bathtub gin with the Wolfman’s brother while bouncing around the room. I just think Phish’s finer work was in the 90’s.

I know it’s a little late, but have you had a chance to see the newest issue of Paste magazine? They’ve got a GREAT segment on the top 50 band names of all time–including my favorite: non-sequitor band names (i.e., JFKFC and The Lee Harvey Keitel Band). You should probably check it out.

I haven’t seen it yet, but I love Paste. I’ll try to dig that up. Thanks for the tip (and the gentle nudge to get back to the bloviating).
