Things like this tend to brink out the darkest sarcasm in me.

I have a natural inclination to argue against you on this point, to take the view that our nation’s history is more horrid than beautiful. But, on the same hand, I want to believe that our nation, and people, are capable of being something more decent than we currently are.

Oh, and I did start reading “A People’s History” over the weekend.

I take your callous point, but I find myself responding to the shallow depravity of our society by seeking out what America really was supposed to be about. I know that the British originally came here seeking “more,” but the nation was founded on the idea of each of us having a piece to ourselves. Yes, that was a hard-scrabble notion from the get-go, but it wasn’t about me having mine, yours and the guy next to you as well. It doesn’t have to be like that (or this). Yes, I sound like some kind of hippie, but really, America has never been about killing your neighbor for a discount on a flat panel TV.

Well, aren’t Americans really just maintaining the tradition of America, trampling everything in site in the sacred quest to obtain more? More land, more money, more oil, more stuff.

Freaking hilarious Palin/Turkey video. So many things wrong in that clip, I don’t know where to start…smirking farmer choking the chicken in his blood-stained pants or Palin acting like nothing is out of the norm. You can just hear several inner monologues at work as the cameras roll:

Farmer: “Y’all gettin’ this (with a hint of ‘Deliverance’ in his eye)? Am I on the shiny box (aka TV)?”

Turkeys in the coop: “Oh crap, they got Bob…give ‘em hell Bob! Don’t let them…oh, that’s not good…keep fighting-don’t let the man hold you down! Get the hell outta…wait…nope…he’s done. Geez, does this remind anyone else of that scene in Fargo?”

Sarah Palin: “Oh golly, we just keep trying to fight through those heavy-handed politics while we bludgeon these birds back here, just like the old pilgrim days. Sure this we’ll probably get criticism for this too, but at least we’re having fun.” And yes, the second part of her quote were her actual words.

Yep, having fun lopping off the head of the bird in the background! I can hear PETA calling all protesters now. Thundercats Ho!!!! Classic Clip.
