Please read Matt Taibbi’s latest article. It’s very important.

I cannot overestimate how important it is that all of us, from the young to the old, National Review readers to Bravo watchers, read this article. The reach of its material touches each and every one of us, no matter how engaged in the broader world we think we might (or might not) be. Ostensibly, it is about the investment bank Goldman Sachs. In reality, it highlights the task ahead if we, as human beings, are to overcome the megalithic obstacles placed in front of us. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you will definitely want to punch someone in the face.

As Taibbi says,

It’s not always easy to accept the reality of what we now routinely allow these people to get away with; there’s a kind of collective denial that kicks in when a country goes through what America has gone through lately, when a people lose as much prestige and status as we have in the past few years. You can’t really register the fact that you’re no longer a citizen of a thriving first-world democracy, that you’re no longer above getting robbed in broad daylight, because like an amputee, you can still sort of feel things that are no longer there.Matt Taibbi

You simply must read this excellent piece of Journalism. That is all.

Steal back your vote!

TRUTHOUT: The Steal Back Your Vote campaign

In the immortal words of Howard Zinn, you can’t be neutral on a moving train. This mantra has meaning in all things that we do, but it gains a particular resonance when considered within the framework of American society today. With that in mind, I bring to your attention the work of Greg Palast. Palast is an investigative reporter who first came to my attention following the 2000 presidential election when he was out in front investigating the vote fraud and disenfranchisement in Florida.

Most recently, he partnered with Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. to create a visually-stimulating guide for American citizens to help us fully realize our suffrage. They also partnered on an investigative piece that is published in this month’s Rolling Stone and it is free on the web.

Their research will anger you and (hopefully) inspire you. Regardless, it is definitely worth taking a look at this information. After all, as Palast and Kennedy put it, your vote has already been stolen from you. Your only defense is to steal it back.

More to follow on knowing and protecting your rights at the polls on November 4. Stay tuned!

Quotable: Matt Taibbi

Matt Taibbi wrote a scathing, intelligent disgorgement of Sarah Palin in the October 2, 2008 edition of Rolling Stone. It is nice to see an intellectual that isn’t afraid to grab the mantle of intelligence and use it to beat a duplicitous moron to a bloody pulp. It isn’t available online yet, but once it is, I’ll link to it from here. Here is a snippet that captures the vitriol:

Here’s what Sarah Palin represents: being a fat fucking pig who pins “Country First” buttons on his man titties and chants “U-S-A! U-S-A!” at the top of his lungs while his kids live off credit cards and Saudis buy up all the mortgages in Kansas.Matt Taibbi
